You could say that the t-shirt is the foundation to your wardrobe – it’s essential to have at least a few simple, basic t-shirts in your closet, and they are never out of style. But what you wear with those shirts makes all the difference in how fashionable you look. Today we’re going to show you four different ways to style your plain t-shirt and make it look fashionable and trendy, whether you choose to dress it up or down.

1) Layer and Tuck

Layer and Tuck is the simplest way of styling a t-shirt. Just simply add another layer on top of your outfit with your favorite color, print or just buy an oversized graphic tee in one of the trending prints this season. Layer and Tuck will instantly make you look more trendy and chic. If you don’t want to layer, wear the t-shirt tucked into high waisted jeans or over a skirt for extra coverage. You can also wear them with shorts as well.

2) High Waist Pencil Skirt, White T-Shirt

A white tee never goes out of style and can be styled in a variety of ways. One way is to pair the classic white tee with a high waisted pencil skirt for day or night. This sweet ensemble can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion or one’s mood. To dress this ensemble up, wear heels and jewelry. Or to dress this ensemble down, swap heels for flats, hoop earrings for studs, and add an accessory like the boater hat seen above!

3) Striped T, Black T, Lace Top

Striped T – Combine with shorts and sandals for a boho look. Throw on some gladiator sandals or wedges for an evening event. Rock jeans with flat boots and layer up with a crop jacket in the winter.

Black T – Try your black t-shirt as a dress. Pull hair back into a low ponytail, throw on some sunnies, add a statement necklace and go out for dinner.

Lace Top – Pair with skinnies and booties for work attire. Wear to the office by day, then throw on leggings, UGGs and your favorite chunky sweater at night.

4) Unusual Accessories

#1) Headband: A headband is great because it offers the perfect finishing touch. Plus, they are relatively inexpensive and don’t take up much space in your closet.
#2) Choker: The choker trend is not going anywhere and can be styled to suit any outfit. Plus, you can find them at virtually any price point if you’re on a budget.
#3) Ring: Jewelry that’s easy to incorporate into an outfit is always an awesome accessory choice! I’ve been loving this ring lately because it makes such a statement with just one piece of jewelry. I love stacking rings and pairing them with my other hand accessories for extra flare! It also adds more interest to an otherwise simple outfit.
#4) Shoes: My go-to for shoes has been sandals or tennis shoes recently but adding heels will add another level of fashionability without taking away from the laid back vibe of the shirt itself.
