Your exercise program will be put to the test during the holidays. Every commercial break will include images of roasts, hams, mashed potatoes, and pies. During the holidays, your coworkers may bring in platters of Christmas treats and sweets for you to sample.

Although you may have to make a few tweaks, you don’t have to give up on your fitness goals totally. These suggestions will help you stay in shape over the holidays.

The secret to losing weight is to be active and move about. Less rigorous activity is just as beneficial as workouts that raise your heart rate. Stay active by doing the tiniest of tasks. Walk around the mall instead of taking the elevator, park further away, and do your shopping. You can even configure your phone to remind you to get up and move about every hour. Make sure your bed is comfy, turn off all electronic devices 1.5 to 2 hours before bed, keep your room dark, and restrict your water intake at least 45 minutes to an hour before you go to bed for a good night’s sleep. If you’re having difficulties falling asleep, play some soothing music and strive for eight to nine hours of sleep each night.

Now is a great time to catch up with loved ones and friends. Try to go out of the house or hotel and away from the television so that you can go on an adventure.

If, despite your best efforts, you find that you’ve gained a few pounds in early January, don’t feel bad about it. As soon as possible, resume your normal exercise and food regimen and maintain a cheerful outlook. And don’t forget to reflect on the joy you experienced throughout the winter holidays!
